If science sustains my life, art animates my soul.
This is a place to ask questions about art--great art, whether or not a work of art is great, exhibitions one has seen, ponderings about our era of creativity--this is the place to discuss.
For starters, three things:
1. This article raises some really good questions: "Why Does Art Matter?"

2. Check out this article, "Why Art Matters," by Alyson B. Stanfield, at this link: www.artbizcoach.com/resources/whyartmatters.pdf
Poet Laureate Dana Gioia is quoted as saying, "Art completes our humanity." Awesome.
3. What do you think will characterize our era of fine art? (The Realists were realistic, then the snap-shot camera was born and realistic painting feel out of vogue; a new group of painters who focused on light in the moment became known as the Impressionists...) I've been thinking about how movements were often born as responses to goings on in the world, and my two cents is that I think there will be a return to traditional materials, in response to the technological advances of the last century. What do you think?
