3. What do you think will characterize our era of fine art? (The Realists were realistic, then the snap-shot camera was born and realistic painting feel out of vogue; a new group of painters who focused on light in the moment became known as the Impressionists...) I've been thinking about how movements were often born as responses to goings on in the world, and my two cents is that I think there will be a return to traditional materials, in response to the technological advances of the last century. What do you think?

I think you are on to something. I also wonder if it it will respond to the frenetic and busyness of the world. Will the new art try to help us step out of a world where reflection seems impossible? I know art probably is supposed to do that generally, but it seems like recently it has often reflected (I am thinking of Rothko for instance) the mood and the problems rather than offered a pathway out of the problems of the age.
